Mondobimbi Associations are associations of people without religious affiliations, attempting to respond to the plight of children and others suffering the effects of hunger, illness and the lack of education and employment.
Our aim is to convert a sensitivity to other people’s disadvantages into work to raise awareness and bring concrete help directly to the regions where assistance is most needed.
The people who are in any way associated to the Mondobimbi Associations, work for them or volunteer their services, recognise that their own cultures, moral codes, religions or lifestyles are in no way superior to or better than those of poorer countries; rather, they acknowledge the wealth of these countries’ cultural and social traditions, and are ready to learn from and respond to them.
Apart from the quantity of aid delivered, we give high priority to the ethical approach adopted, which must be free from cultural, moral, economic or religious manipulation, and must focus on fuelling sustainable growth.
We choose working methods that prioritise respect for the local culture and economy and the real needs of the people we wish to help.
Our aim is above all to generate education, professional training, jobs, products and services that can find an outlet in the local regional economy and are immune to national or international economic instability. This means the provision of microcredit and expert advice to support the creation of small firms with flexible, creative output, capable of responding to demand on the local market. We also intend to train young people to enable them to find employment with existing businesses.
With regard to the children we help:
• Our centres offer a home to children who no longer have the support of one or both parents. • We cover the right to food of as many children as possible through our school feeding centres. • We guarantee them a safe environment and the sports and leisure activities needed for their mental and physical development. • We provide an education to the children housed at our centres. • We give them a basic formal education and the manual, craft and creative skills they need to ensure their everyday survival. (Workshops: textiles, carpentry, metal working, IT, vegetable growing, farming, hunting and fishing, catering work, creative crafts).
As well as an education, they must be provided with the skills they require to survive in the local economy, where existence is extremely hand-to-mouth. • After 14 years of age, while they continue to attend school, the young people will be found placements with small firms or businesses to learn a trade or profession (restaurants, bars, shops, crafts, workshops, etc.). • We help them to start their working lives. • We finance locally sustainable small businesses through microcredit.
Modes of operation
We finance projects, submitted by the young people we help, that have real prospects of success in the local economy and can help the communities from which our protégés came.
• We give value to and foster the children’s bond to their birth communities. • We respect and promote these communities’ traditions, culture and skills. • We maintain constant contact between our centres and the surrounding communities.
We underline once again that the human and spiritual values that inspire us are respect for the historic, cultural, religious, ethnic and economic diversities of the local populations. This spirit finds expression above all through the behaviour, actions and words of everyone who works for Mondobimbi.
The Mondobimbi Managers, Staff and Volunteers are committed:
• to respecting local laws and customs • to fighting drug abuse, sexual tourism, paedophilia and corruption • to doing their best to resolve conflicts inside and outside the organisation, taking care not to fuel them and seeking help in negotiating solutions • to providing an example, through their own behaviour, of ethics, tolerance, acceptance and compassion, without sacrificing their duty to direct and decide. • to listening to the needs and suggestions of staff and volunteers in the management of activities and the planning of projects, with regular meetings.
