In 8 years, Mondobimbi has established 4 residential centres and it is now building a village to bring these centres together in a single place.
The residential centres were established to house undernourished, orphaned and neglected children. Some children live with their widowed or abandoned mothers, while others, who are orphans, live with relatives, but none of them live in healthy conditions or in housing which enables them to attend school, receive a good education and health care, or look after themselves or their clothing. Their shacks are often infested with insects or parasites.
To overcome these problems, we decided to build residential centres where children could live during the week; they return to their relatives on Saturdays and Sundays and during the school holidays, to ensure that they maintain contact with their roots.
Our homes and schools employ 38 people: carers, teachers, administrative staff, cleaners and cooks (some of them are children's parents).
